COURT OF APPEAL UPHLODS THE APPOINTMENT OF OBA AFOLABI ODIDIOMO AS OLU OF IGBOKODA, DISMISSED THE APPEAL OF OTHER RULING HOUSES:
The Court of Appeal sitting at Akure this afternoon upheld the apointment of Oba Afolabi Odidiomo as the Olu of Igbokoda the headquarters of Ilaje Local Government of Ondo State.
In a unanimous decision read by His Lordship Justice H.R Shagari in Appeal N0 CA/AK/ 30/15, the Court affirmed the judgment of the Ondo State High Court which earlier dismissed Suit N0: AK/283/2012 jointly filed by Princes of Araromi and Okunnuwa Ruling Houses challenging the appointment of Oba Odidiomo by the Igbokoda Kingmakers and the Ondo State Government.
Oba Afolabi Oladimeji Odidiomo, a lawyer from Larada Ruling House was unanimously appointed by the Kingmakers and the appointment was approved by the Ondo State Government in 2012. However some members of the other two Ruling Houses challenged the appointment for allegedly being contrary to the customary law of the Chieftaincy.
In affirming the judgment of the lower court earlier delivered by Justice Bode Adegbehingbe who is also now a Justice of the Court of Appeal, Justice Shagari held that the appointment of Oba Odidiomo was in conformity with the Customary law of the Chieftaincy adding that the Appeal lacked merit.
Speaking at the premises of the Court with journalists on behalf of other lawyers for the Respondents, Chief Sola Ebiseni said the judgment was good for the peace and unity of the community. He said “I am not just a lawyer in this case, as you know, I am also a leader in the Ilaje community. I intend to join Kabiyesi to bring everyone together for the peace, unity and progress of our people”.
