A stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Dayo Faduyile, OON, has congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of the nation’s Blue Sapphire 65th Independence Anniversary. October 1st of every year is set aside to commemorate Nigeria’s independence from British colonial rule which lasted for several decades.

In his Independence Anniversary message made available to newsmen, Professor Faduyile stated that sixty-five years of nationhood is a testament to the resilience of Nigerians and their unwavering hope in the unity of the country. He added that Nigeria has survived various political upheavals that tore other nations apart, making the celebration of sixty-five years of independence both significant and deserving.

Reflecting on the nation’s journey, Professor Faduyile acknowledged the numerous challenges that Nigeria has faced since independence. He noted that although the civil war cast a dark shadow on the nation’s history, the conflict-resolution mechanisms that brought the war to an end ultimately strengthened Nigeria’s unity and reinforced the principle of “unity in diversity,” which has continued to sustain the country’s progress.

He further remarked that looking back at the sacrifices of Nigeria’s founding fathers, their dedication to democracy, and the country’s uninterrupted democratic practice since 1999, there is every reason to celebrate. He recalled how the interventions of the military once made democracy seem distant, yet courageous advocates for civil rule stood firm, paving the way for the democratic governance Nigerians enjoy today, an achievement that makes the 65th Independence Anniversary truly worthy of celebration.

Professor Faduyile urged Nigerians to rally behind the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he described as the most capable leader to steer the nation at this defining moment. He emphasized that the President has brought to bear his wealth of experience as a committed democrat, a financial strategist, and a seasoned public administrator. According to him, critics who expect instant results must recognize that rebuilding an economy takes time, but the early signs of recovery under President Tinubu’s leadership already inspire confidence in a brighter future.

Concluding his statement, Professor Faduyile welcomed Nigerians to the month of October, praying that God will continue to keep citizens in good health and grant them the grace to witness many more Independence Anniversaries of a strong, united, and resilient Nigeria.
