Defending Excellence: Why We Must Stand with Hon. Tunji-Ojo Against the Politics of Bitterness
By Babatunde KUYE
In recent weeks, a shameful campaign of calumny has emerged in Ondo State—one aimed at tarnishing the hard-earned image of one of our brightest stars, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo (BTO). The focus of this baseless attack is his NYSC certificate, a desperate attempt by political detractors to pull down a man whose performance, integrity, and dedication have become too intimidating for those who thrive on mediocrity and mischief.
Let us be clear: this is not about NYSC. This is about envy. This is about the old, worn-out culture of politics of bitterness—the kind that seeks to destroy excellence because it reminds others of their own failures.
Hon. Tunji-Ojo has consistently proven that leadership is not about titles, but about tangible results. As Minister of Interior, he has redefined efficiency in public service—clearing the long-standing backlog of passport applications, introducing digital innovations, and restoring public confidence in one of Nigeria’s most essential ministries.
His achievements are not hidden. They are being celebrated across the country and beyond. It was no surprise that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in his October 1st Independence Day address, singled him out among all ministers for commendation—a rare honor that speaks volumes about his performance, discipline, and patriotism.
At a time when many public officials struggle to make an impact, Tunji-Ojo stands as a symbol of what youthful competence and visionary leadership can achieve. He represents a new generation of leaders who believe governance should serve the people, not personal interests.
It is unfortunate that rather than celebrate excellence, some individuals in Ondo State have chosen to trade in lies and character assassination. This is the same destructive attitude that has held our politics back for decades—where envy replaces encouragement, and progress is met with propaganda.
We must reject this toxic tradition. Politics should not be a battlefield of hate, but a platform for development. When we destroy our own, we destroy the hope of the people. When we pull down the few who make us proud, we send a message to our youth that merit and hard work are punishable offences.
Hon. Tunji-Ojo is not perfect—no human is—but his record speaks louder than any rumour. He has brought pride to Ondo State. He has shown that young people can lead with integrity and results. He has become a shining light in our political landscape, and it is our collective duty to protect that light.
We must rise above partisanship and bitterness. Whether you belong to his political camp or not, the truth remains: his success is Ondo State’s success. When he shines, we all benefit. When he is recognized on the national stage, our state’s name echoes with pride.
Let us shun the politics of envy and embrace the politics of progress. Let us reject the campaign of lies and stand firmly for truth. Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo represents the hope of a new Ondo State—one built on competence, vision, and accountability.
The people of Ondo State must not allow the voices of hate to drown out the sound of progress. We must defend our own. We must protect this shining light—for the good of all.
