OSYN Gears Up To Rally Stakeholders’ Support for Coastal State Bill Ahead of Public Hearing

Senator Jimoh Ibrahim

On the hills of public hearing for the Coastal State Bill, the Ondo State Youth Network (OSYN) has put in place necessary machinery to rally the support of stakeholders for the Coastal State Bill.

The Coastal State Bill, being sponsored by Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, representing Ondo South at the Nigerian Senate, has passed the third reading. According to legislative procedure, the said Bill is due for public hearing.

Speaking on the need to galvanise stakeholders in support of the Bill, Babatunde Kuye, General Secretary of OSYN, noted that with current phase of the Bill, it is necessary to reach out to relevant stakeholders in the affected areas and we have put in place a youth-led machinery to accomplish this onerous task.

Speaking further, Kuye said, ” political leaders, traditional rulers, community heads, religious leaders and youths across the length and breadth of the proposed areas have been identified and would be visited with the message of support for Coastal State.

It is the yearnings of our forebears, and we cannot afford to toy with this opportunity that present itself for the creation of Coastal State.”

The Coastal State Bill proposes the creation of a new state from the existing Ondo State, by carving out Odigbo, Okitipupa, Ese-Odo, Irele, and Ilaje Local Government Areas to form the Coastal State. This significant move aims to establish a distinct entity, potentially bringing about new opportunities and governance structures for the affected areas.

In these areas, “we passionately appeal to our leaders across boards to give the Coastal State Bill, the necessary support that it deserves through massive turnout for the public hearing which will offer the window to make a convincing argument in it’s favour,” Kuye said.
