SNYC Condemns the Killing of Three Farmers in Ala Igbatoro in Akure North Local Government, Calls for Urgent Government and Security Intervention
The Southern Nigeria Youth Congress (SNYC), through its National Director of Information, Comrade Afe Adegboyega Ezekiel (EROSION), has strongly condemned the gruesome killing of three innocent farmers by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Ala Igbatoro, Akure north local government in Ondo State.
Comrade Erosion described the incident as heartbreaking, barbaric, and unacceptable, lamenting the rising insecurity that continues to threaten the peace and livelihood of rural dwellers in Akure and its environs. He noted that the murder of these hardworking citizens is a painful reminder that many farming communities remain unsafe despite repeated assurances from security agencies.
He called on all security operatives, particularly the Amotekun Corps, to rise to their constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property, rather than engaging in internal wrangling and factional disputes.
“It is disheartening to see that while innocent lives are being lost, some members of the Amotekun Corps are busy fighting their commander over appointment letters instead of focusing on their primary duty of securing our people,” he stated.
Also, Comrade Erosion urged the Ondo State Government, under the leadership of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, the Chairman of Akure North Local Government, and the Member representing Akure North in the State House of Assembly, to urgently intervene and ensure that justice is served. He stressed that decisive action must be taken to prevent a recurrence and to reassure citizens that their safety remains a top government priority.
“Our farmers are the backbone of local food production. When they can no longer go to their farms without fear, our collective survival as a people is threatened. The time to act is now before insecurity consumes more innocent lives,” Comrade Erosion added.
The SNYC further called for improved collaboration between security agencies, traditional rulers, and local vigilante groups to strengthen intelligence gathering and surveillance in rural communities.
As youth representatives, the congress reaffirmed its commitment to standing with the people of Ala Igbatoro and the entire Akure Kingdom in demanding accountability, protection, and peace.
