Insecurity Crisis in Ondo State: Scholars Write Open Letter to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa Over Surge in Kidnappings

In recent times, the people of Ondo State have been confronted with an alarming surge in insecurity, particularly the growing menace of kidnapping. Communities that once thrived in relative peace are now gripped by fear, as families, commuters, farmers, and business owners increasingly find themselves vulnerable to criminal elements. The disturbing frequency of abductions has not only threatened lives but has also disrupted economic activities and eroded public confidence in safety across the state.

Concerned about this troubling development and the profound impact it continues to have on the wellbeing of residents, the Ondo State Scholars Arena for Development Initiative has deemed it necessary to formally address the situation. As a body committed to intellectual engagement, civic responsibility, and the advancement of societal development, the group believes that silence in the face of escalating insecurity would amount to complicity.

Consequently, the initiative has written an open letter to the Executive Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, urging the state government to take urgent and decisive steps to confront the growing threat of kidnapping and restore confidence in the safety of lives and property.

The incessant and reprehensible acts of kidnapping, perpetrated with impunity, have occasioned an atmosphere of unmitigated fear, consternation, and despondency amongst the populace.

As erudite scholars, we are compelled to express our utmost dismay at the manifest failure of the government to safeguard the citizenry. The unrelenting spate of abductions, often accompanied by egravating circumstances of brutality and rapacity, has precipitated a crisis of confidence in the government’s ability to discharge its primordial duty of protecting human life and property. The deleterious impact on the social fabric and economic well-being of our state is nothing short of calamitous.

As the Chief Security Officer of the state, it is incumbent upon you to address this scourge with utmost dispatch, celerity, and efficaciousness. We imperatively demand that you deploy all requisite resources, including intelligence gathering and law enforcement agencies, to identify, apprehend, and prosecute the nefarious perpetrators of these odious crimes within the next 7 days. The exigencies of the situation brook no delay.

The populace has long suffered the slunts of insecurity; we shall no longer acquiesce in this state of affairs. Should your administration fail to take decisive action within the stipulated timeframe, we shall be constrained to mobilize the citizenry and orchestrate a protest of unprecedented magnitude, thereby underscoring our resolute determination to reclaim our state from the throes of anarchy and brigandage.

We urge your Excellency to treat this matter with the gravity, seriousness, and urgency it deserves, lest the situation further deteriorate into an unmitigated catastrophe.
