FROM COMPASSION TO CONSOLIDATION: SGN, B.T.O AND THE GRASSROOTS PATH TO TINUBU 2027

At a time when leadership is measured not by rhetoric but by impact, the Sunshine Grassroots Network (SGN) once again demonstrated why it remains one of the most vibrant and effective grassroots platforms within the All Progressives Congress (APC). Through two landmark programmes; BTO Widows’ Mite and Tinubu Free Fuel (TFF) Scheme – SGN reaffirmed its commitment to people-focused politics, social inclusion, and strategic grassroots mobilization in Ondo State.

The twin programmes, held on Wednesday, 24th December 2025, were powered by Hon. Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo (BTO), Minister of Interior and National Leader of SGN, were not mere charity exercises. They were deliberate, well-coordinated interventions aimed at cushioning economic pressures, strengthening party loyalty, and consolidating public confidence in the APC-led government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

BTO Widows’ Mite: Compassion with Structure

Under the BTO Widows’ Mite, over 250 widows received ₦20,000 cash support each, alongside 5kg bags of rice as Christmas palliatives. For many of these beneficiaries, the gesture represented more than financial relief; it was a strong statement that the party and its leaders see, hear, and care for the most vulnerable.

This intervention resonated deeply at the grassroots, especially during the festive season when economic pressures are often most pronounced. It reinforced the long-held belief that SGN’s politics is rooted in empathy, dignity, and inclusion – values consistently embodied by BTO.

Complementing the Widows’ Mite was the Tinubu Free Fuel (TFF) Scheme, a bold and timely intervention targeted at transport operators, the backbone of daily economic activity. Under the scheme, 400 Okada (motorcycle) riders and 200 Keke Maruwa (tricycle) operators received 5 litres of petrol each, easing operational costs and boosting their earning capacity during the festive rush.

This initiative directly acknowledged the role of transport operators in sustaining local economies and keeping communities connected. It also aligned seamlessly with President Tinubu’s broader economic vision of supporting productivity, reducing hardship, and stimulating grassroots economic activity.

Both programmes were successfully coordinated under the leadership of the Director General of SGN, Hon. Dayo Awude, with the support of other state executives. Their coordination reflected discipline, organizational strength, and clarity of purpose – hallmarks of SGN’s operational model since its alignment with the APC.

Speaking through the programmes, SGN leadership reiterated that the core mandate of the Network is to:

-Add measurable value to the APC

-Expand the party’s grassroots base

-Strengthen party structures across wards and local governments

-Work collectively to ensure sustained electoral victories

According to them, SGN remains firmly committed to grassroots mobilization, political inclusion, and party consolidation, seeing these as non-negotiable pillars for winning not just elections, but public trust.

The Widows’ Mite and TFF schemes are only the latest in a long line of impactful interventions by Hon. Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. Recall that BTO recently facilitated the distribution of over 50,000 bags of rice across Ondo State, alongside millions of naira in cash support to APC faithfuls, as part of Christmas palliatives.

This consistency has further cemented BTO’s reputation as a leader whose generosity is structured, strategic, and aligned with party growth. His actions continue to translate goodwill into political capital for the APC, particularly at the grassroots where elections are ultimately decided.

Beyond SGN and BTO’s initiatives, the wider national context further strengthens the case for continuity. Nigerians witnessed, for the first time in many years, a festive season marked by relative stability in fuel pump prices across the country. This stability, coupled with gradual improvements in food supply chains and market confidence, has contributed to reduced food costs and eased festive pressures for millions of households.

These developments underscore President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to tough but necessary reforms, economic recalibration, and long-term national stability. While challenges remain, the direction is increasingly clear, and grassroots-focused interventions like those of SGN help translate national policies into tangible local benefits.

The message from Ondo State is unambiguous: Sunshine Grassroots Network (SGN) is ready, OluBunmi Tunji-Ojo (BTO) is committed, and the grassroots are mobilized. Through compassion-driven programmes, strategic party engagement, and unwavering loyalty to the APC, SGN is laying a solid foundation for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

In the synergy between SGN’s grassroots strength, BTO’s people-centered leadership, and Tinubu’s reform-driven governance lies a powerful political equation, one built not on slogans, but on impact, inclusion, and results.

Indeed, from widows to transport operators, from wards to local governments, the signal is strong: the grassroots are feeling the difference and they are ready to stand again with Tinubu in 2027.
