Faduyile’s Moves: How Ondo South’s New Senator Is Building a Network for Development

Barely few months into his tenure as the Senator representing Ondo South, Distinguished Senator Prof. Dayo Faduyile, OON, is already making moves that point to a representative determined to stay connected with his constituents and respond to issues affecting them.
From emergency situations in the communities to engagements with key institutions and stakeholders, Faduyile’s early activities are beginning to show a pattern of intervention, consultation and follow-through.
One of the clearest examples is his response to the recent flooding across Ondo South. After reports that homes, farmlands, businesses and major roads had been affected, Faduyile sought urgent humanitarian assistance from the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA.
The intervention produced results, as NEMA subsequently deployed a team to Ondo South to assess the affected communities across the six local government areas and compile the names of victims for relief.
Faduyile also called for proper documentation of affected residents at the various local government secretariats to ensure that genuine victims are captured when relief materials are eventually distributed.
While the delivery of NEMA relief materials to affected communities is subject to the agency’s assessment, documentation and logistics process, which can take time, the deployment of the assessment team represents an important first step. For residents who have been waiting anxiously for assistance, it provides reassurance that their situation has been formally identified and is now within the relief process.
His response to the Okitipupa flooding followed the same approach. He commiserated with affected residents, promised an assessment visit and pledged to pursue ecological assistance. He has also indicated his intention to bring the recurring sea incursion in Aiyetoro to the attention of the Senate, highlighting the growing threat to the coastal community.
Beyond emergencies, Faduyile has been building relationships that could open more opportunities for Ondo South. His familiarization visit to the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Architect Sonny Echono, provided an opportunity to discuss issues of concern to the senatorial district.
He has also engaged key stakeholders, including the Lord Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ondo, Most Revd. Jude Arogundade, and Dr. Remi Peter Olatubora, SAN, in what appears to be an effort to build bridges and widen the network around the development needs of the district.
At the grassroots, Faduyile has also made several financial interventions in support of individuals and community-driven initiatives. At the Dakiz Human Development and Empowerment Initiative in Igbokoda, early August, for instance, he donated ₦1 million towards a programme focused on vocational training, startup support and helping young people become economically self-reliant.
These are still the early days of his tenure, but the direction is beginning to emerge. Faduyile is reaching out to stakeholders, responding to emergencies, supporting grassroots initiatives and taking local concerns to institutions where solutions can be pursued.
For Ondo South, the expectation is that these early moves will continue to translate into tangible interventions and opportunities for people across the six local government areas.
The moves have begun, the connections are being built, and the early results are beginning to show. This pontificates at the strides of a Federal Legislature who is driven by one resolve: make Positive Impacts for the greater good of the people of Ondo South, strides that will not fade in the sand of time.
