NIGERIA AT 66: FADUYILE CALLS FOR TOLERANCE, PATRIOTISM AND COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY

As Nigeria marks 66 years of independence, the Senator representing Ondo South Senatorial District, Senator Prof. Dayo Faduyile, OON, has called on Nigerians to embrace tolerance, peaceful coexistence and a renewed sense of responsibility towards the nation.

In a message marking this year’s Independence Day, the lawmaker said the anniversary provided an opportunity for Nigerians to look beyond the difficulties of the present and reflect on the values capable of strengthening the country’s future.

According to him, Nigeria’s greatest asset is not only its natural resources, but also its people, whose different backgrounds, cultures, languages and beliefs can become a source of strength when properly harnessed.

He urged Nigerians to show greater understanding of one another, resist actions capable of deepening division and promote an atmosphere where people can live and work together despite their differences.

“Independence is more than a date on the calendar. It reminds us of our journey as a people and the responsibility we share in shaping the Nigeria we desire.

“Our differences should not become reasons for hatred or separation. We must learn to tolerate one another, respect our different perspectives and work together for the common good. Nigeria belongs to all of us, and its progress requires the contribution of every citizen.

“Whatever challenges we face today, we must continue to believe in Nigeria and remain committed to building a better future for ourselves and generations yet unborn.”

Faduyile particularly encouraged the people of Ondo South to remain peaceful, law-abiding and supportive of legitimate government efforts aimed at addressing the country’s economic and social challenges.

He acknowledged that the current period comes with significant difficulties for many families and businesses, but stressed that sustainable national development requires patience, responsible citizenship and collective participation.

The Senator also called on citizens to hold firmly to the values of compassion, honesty, tolerance and mutual respect, while urging leaders at all levels to remain responsive to the needs and aspirations of the people.

He said Nigerians should use the anniversary not only to celebrate the country’s independence but also to renew their commitment to its peace, stability and development.

“Let us celebrate Nigeria with hope, but let us also remember our responsibility to Nigeria. The country we want to see tomorrow will depend greatly on what we do today. May our nation continue to grow in peace, prosperity and strength,” he added.

Faduyile wished Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora a peaceful and memorable 66th Independence Anniversary.
