I am not in a leadership tussle with anyone.” — Hon Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo

Leadership is not about competition or the occupation of a position; it is about service and influence. People accept you as a leader only when you use your influence for their betterment.

Positions are temporary. True leadership is defined by one’s contribution to the growth, development, and welfare of the people. Occupying an office does not automatically make one a leader.

Leadership is earned through loyalty, dedication, integrity, and the ability to inspire positive developmental change for the benefit of the community and the nation.

Can a son become older than his father simply because he occupies a position?
Can a councillor become the most important person in his ward merely because of the office he holds? The same principle applies to all political positions.

In essence, whenever people come together to elect or appoint someone into a position, they do so to choose a representative not a ruler. Holding public office is a responsibility to serve the people’s interests, not a claim to political superiority.

Leadership is service, and service is the true measure of influence
