Awude Fulfils Promise to Oyemekun Grammar School, Begins Lawn Tennis Court Upgrade

The Director-General of Sunshine Grassroots Network (SGN) and an indigene of Akure, Hon. Dayo Awude, has fulfilled his promise to renovate and upgrade the lawn tennis courts at Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure.

Awude, who is personally undertaking the project, donated N1 million towards the ongoing work as part of his commitment to improving the school’s sporting facilities.

The intervention is being carried out singlehandedly by Awude, who said his decision to support the school was driven by his belief in giving back to society and creating opportunities for young people to develop their talents.

Speaking on the occasion, he said service to humanity should remain a responsibility shared by everyone who has the opportunity to make a difference.

“Ultimately, this is service to humanity. I believe that is all we live for. Let us all do our best to promote humanity. Let’s do our best and render service to society,” he said.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the school, the Principal of Oyemekun Grammar School, Akoni John Adeniyi Oluyide, commended Awude for the gesture and for showing genuine interest in the development of the institution.

The Principal said the intervention was a welcome contribution towards maintaining and improving the legacy built by those who came before the present generation. He described Awude’s action as a demonstration of love for the community and an example of how individuals can take responsibility for the development of their immediate environment.

He also acknowledged the growing recognition of Awude’s community interventions across Akure and Ondo State, describing him as a son of the soil whose activities have continued to attract positive attention.

According to the Principal, the significance of the project extends beyond the immediate needs of the school. He noted that once completed, the upgraded lawn tennis courts could provide a valuable sporting facility for nurturing young talents and potentially serve a wider sporting purpose within the community.

Awude has over the years been involved in several initiatives aimed at supporting education and community development. During the administration of former Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, he was involved in the construction of a school at Ilu-Abo in Akure North.

He has also carried out renovation and development projects at his alma mater, in addition to several humanitarian gestures across communities.

The ongoing work at Oyemekun Grammar School is another expression of his commitment to contributing to the development of education and youth activities in Akure.

Awude said he believes that people should not wait for government alone before contributing to the development of their communities, urging individuals in positions of influence to use what they have to make a difference.

For him, the project is not simply about renovating a tennis court, but about providing students with a better facility, encouraging sporting talent and, ultimately, giving back to the community.
