Insults Are Not Our Culture: Akoko Leader Condemns Viral Attack on Ondo Governor

A prominent Akoko leader and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), High Chief Adebisi Olanrewaju Abraham, has condemned a recent viral video in which an individual identified as an Akoko indigene allegedly made derogatory remarks against the Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and his Chief of Protocol.

In a statement issued on Sunday, High Chief Abraham described the comments as “a clear deviation from Akoko values and culture,” stressing that while citizens have the right to hold leaders accountable, such engagement must be conducted with respect and decorum.

“It is not right for any Akoko son to use derogatory words against Mr. Governor or any of his aides. That is not our culture; that is not who we are,” he said. “It is acceptable to speak truth to power where it is justified, but reckless and baseless attacks on leaders are unacceptable.”

The APC chieftain, who is a member of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) and a longstanding (aboriginal) stakeholder in the party dating back to the AD, AC and ACN eras, noted that Governor Aiyedatiwa has demonstrated genuine commitment to the development of Akoko land.
He cited the ongoing dualisation of the Akungba-Ikare road as a major intervention, describing the project as long overdue and critical to addressing transportation challenges in the area.

“Governor Aiyedatiwa has commenced the dualisation of the Akungba-Ikare road, which has long been a menace to us in this part of the state. We should encourage him to complete it and other inner roads within our towns. The Governor is doing his best and needs our collective encouragement,” High Chief Abraham stated.

He further urged Akoko sons and daughters, both at home and in the diaspora, to uphold the cultural virtues of respect, discipline and constructive engagement in public discourse, emphasizing that unity and decorum remain central to Akoko identity.
