SGN’s Grassroots Revolution: Dayo Awude Highlights Impact Across Ondo, Commends Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo
The Director General of the Sunshine Grassroots Network (SGN), Hon. Dayo Awude, has highlighted the growing impact of the organisation’s grassroots interventions across the 18 Local Government Areas of Ondo State.
Hon. Awude spoke during a live interview on Viral 98.5 FM, Akure, where he outlined the various programmes and initiatives being implemented by SGN to improve the lives of people at the grassroots and ensure that development reaches communities across the state.
According to him, SGN was established with a clear commitment to bridging the gap between government and the people by taking meaningful interventions directly to communities and vulnerable groups.
Among the key initiatives highlighted by the Director General are:
Farmers Support Programme
Hon. Awude explained that SGN has continued to support farmers across Ondo State with essential agricultural tools designed to make farming easier and improve productivity.
The items distributed include rain boots, cutlasses and farmer spray machines. He noted that the initiative is aimed at supporting rural farmers, strengthening food production and contributing to food security across the state.
Tinubu Free Fuel Initiative
The SGN DG also highlighted the Tinubu Free Fuel Initiative, which was introduced as part of efforts to provide relief to transporters, artisans and other low-income earners affected by the rising cost of fuel.
He disclosed that beneficiaries across markets and motor parks in Ondo State have received fuel support through the initiative, describing it as one of SGN’s practical interventions aimed at cushioning economic pressures on ordinary Nigerians.
Atajare Aprons for Market Women
Another intervention highlighted by Hon. Awude is the distribution of Atajare Aprons to market women across the state.
He explained that beyond the branding and messaging attached to the aprons, the initiative represents SGN’s appreciation of the important role women play in trade, commerce and the local economy, while also promoting greater inclusion at the grassroots.
Welfare Support for Widows
Hon. Awude further disclosed that SGN operates a welfare support programme targeted at widows across Ondo State.
Through the initiative, widows receive various forms of assistance, including food items, cash support and empowerment assistance, aimed at easing their challenges and helping them regain economic stability and dignity.
Direct Support and Empowerment
The Director General also noted that SGN’s interventions extend beyond its structured programmes, with the organisation providing direct assistance to individuals, youths and vulnerable members of communities.
Such interventions, he said, include empowerment materials, financial assistance and skills support aimed at helping beneficiaries become more self-reliant.
“Nigeria Is on the Right Trajectory”
Speaking on the state of the Nigerian economy, Hon. Awude expressed optimism about the direction of the country, aligning with views expressed by renowned economists, including Prof. Charles Soludo and Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, that Nigeria’s economy is moving towards a more sustainable path.
He argued that some of the economic difficulties being experienced by Nigerians today are linked to the bold reforms undertaken by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address long-standing structural challenges and reposition the economy for sustainable growth.
According to him, the success of such reforms should ultimately be measured by their long-term impact on the lives and livelihoods of Nigerians.
Commends Tunji-Ojo
Hon. Awude also expressed appreciation to the Honourable Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for his continued support and commitment to the growth of SGN and its grassroots initiatives.
He described Tunji-Ojo as a leader who understands the importance of people-centred development and whose support has strengthened SGN’s ability to extend its programmes to more communities across Ondo State.
SGN Reaffirms Commitment to the Grassroots
In his closing remarks, Hon. Awude reaffirmed SGN’s commitment to grassroots development and to supporting initiatives that positively impact the lives of ordinary people.
He said the organisation would continue to align with the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu while remaining focused on taking development, empowerment and support closer to the people.
He summed up the philosophy behind SGN’s grassroots approach with the words:
“The roof must always protect the load.”
