OGUN 2027: IF YAYI CAN DO THIS AS A SENATOR, IMAGINE WHAT HE WILL ACHIEVE AS GOVERNOR

As Ogun State looks towards the 2027 governorship election, one question deserves attention: if Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, can facilitate these developmental projects as a senator, what more can he achieve as governor?

Under the slogan “Promise Made, Promises Kept,” Yayi has highlighted infrastructure projects across Ogun Central and Ogun East, covering roads, educational facilities and digital learning.

Among them are the Magbon–INEC Road drainage and asphalting project in Abeokuta South, Temasunwon Road in Ijebu-Ode, and Agura Sabo Road in Sagamu, which have reportedly been completed and delivered. A block of 12 classrooms, with offices, a mini-library and furniture, has also been delivered at Ibafo Grammar School. At Remo Divisional High School in Sagamu, an ICT centre equipped with computers, solar power and water facilities has reportedly been completed. Unity Road in Ibafo is another project being highlighted under the township roads programme.

These interventions matter because good roads connect communities, support businesses and make movement easier. Better school facilities create improved conditions for learning, while ICT centres give students opportunities to develop digital skills for the future.

Now, imagine the possibilities when Yayi moves from legislative representation to executive leadership.

A senator and a governor have different responsibilities. As governor, Yayi would have the opportunity to coordinate state policies, ministries, budgets and development programmes, bringing infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, industrialisation and job creation together under a broader development agenda.

Ogun State has enormous potential, given its industrial base, agricultural opportunities and proximity to Lagos. The task is to turn these advantages into more jobs, better public services, improved infrastructure and greater opportunities for residents across all three senatorial districts.

With purposeful leadership, road projects can support commerce and industrial growth; better schools can prepare young people for employment; and agricultural development can create opportunities for farmers, processors and traders. This is the kind of connected development Ogun State needs.

Of course, the responsibility of a governor is greater, and the expectations of the people are higher. Beyond completing projects, there must be proper planning, accountability, maintenance and a commitment to ensuring that development reaches every community.

For me, Yayi’s highlighted projects provide a strong basis for believing that his experience can be put to greater use. The 2027 conversation should therefore focus not only on what he has facilitated but also on the wider possibilities his leadership could bring to Ogun State.

As Ogun State looks towards 2027, I believe Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has the experience, political reach and capacity to deliver even more as governor.

If he can facilitate roads, classrooms and ICT facilities as a senator, he will be in a stronger position to drive a broader development agenda as governor, reaching more communities and improving more lives across Ogun State.

For me, Yayi represents an opportunity to build on these interventions and take development to a greater level. Ogun State deserves leadership that turns vision into action, promises into projects, and projects into lasting benefits for the people.

With the right plans, purposeful leadership and a firm commitment to service, Yayi can lead the next chapter of progress for the Gateway State. The task ahead is greater, but so is the opportunity to deliver more for the people of Ogun State.
