AN OPEN LETTER TO THE GOVERNOR OF ONDO STATE, HIS EXCELLENCY LUCKY ORIMISAN AIYEDATIWA
Your Excellency,
We, the members of the Ondo State Scholars Arena for Development Initiative, a registered non-partisan organization comprising over 8,000 scholars across the three senatorial districts, are compelled to express our profound concerns regarding the utilization of intervention funds allocated to your administration by the federal government. These funds, amounting to billions of naira, were ostensibly intended to mitigate the suffering of indigent citizens in Ondo State. Regrettably, the tangible impact of these funds remains elusive to the populace.
It is alarming to observe that, despite the federal government’s generous disbursement of funds intended to alleviate the economic hardships resulting from subsidy removal, the benefits have not reached the intended beneficiaries. Our organization has gathered verifiable information indicating that the billions allocated to the palliative committee last year were disproportionately distributed, with only a fraction of the intended recipients benefiting. Moreover, a staggering 90% of the beneficiaries were affiliated with the All Progressives Congress (APC), highlighting a partisan distribution of the palliatives by party leaders.
As the Governor of Ondo State, we respectfully remind you that your stewardship extends to all citizens, regardless of political affiliation. It is imperative to set aside party allegiance in distributing benefits, ensuring that the palliatives reach the most vulnerable segments of the population.
In light of the recent allocation of N13.9 billion from the federal government, we note that you have ordered the utilization of N2 billion to alleviate the astronomical food prices in the state. While we commend this initiative, we urge you to ensure that the remaining N11.9 billion is judiciously utilized to benefit the poorest of the poor in the state. To achieve this, we suggest collaborating with youth leaders across the state, particularly your Senior Special Assistant on Youth Empowerment and Job Creation, who has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to working with youths across party lines.
We believe that this collaborative approach will facilitate the equitable distribution of the palliatives, thereby positively impacting the lives of the indigent citizens of Ondo State. We repose confidence in the integrity of your administration and pray that the Almighty guides and protects you in discharging your responsibilities to the people.
Sincerely yours,
Odofin Oluwafemi ( C Banking)
Convener,
Ondo State Scholars’ Arena for Development Initiative.
